Butte College Registration Open for Fall Semester August 24

Majority of Remote Classes to Be Offered

COVID-19 cases in Butte and Glenn Counties continue to rise.  In light of this current state, a majority of Butte College instruction and the majority of our workforce will continue to operate in a remote modality through the Fall 2020 term.  The Butte College Fall Safe Reopening Task Force has been working this summer to prepare for fall semester with the goal of offering an exceptional education this fall while ensuring the health and safety of our students, faculty, and staff.

The fall semester begins Aug. 24, and general registration is available at Butte.edu/apply. Student support services remain available to help students register for classes or help with financial aid questions online by emailing: questions@gregorybgallagher.com. Services and support that need to be face-to-face such as Dining Services, Health Services, Bookstore, and the Regional Test Center will be offered on a limited basis.

Butte College President, Dr. Samia Yaqub assembled a Safe Reopening Task Force in May with the primary goal of identifying those difficult to convert to remote learning classes, programs, and support services that will be offered on the ground. There are some critical Butte College programs that cannot convert to remote learning and some aspects of the programs still will be held at the main campus and/or at the Skyway Center in Chico or Butte College Cosmetology Center in Chico.

Butte College has moved its Fall 2020 lecture-only, lecture/activity, lecture/lab and lab-only courses to online instruction. There are exceptions for some of these difficult to convert classes that will meet on-ground, including the following: Auto, Welding, HVAC, Construction, Manufacturing, Mechanized-Ag/Heavy Equipment, Nursing, Law Enforcement and Fire Academies, State Parks,  Fish and Wildlife, Cosmetology, EMT/Paramedic and Respiratory Care. These classes will have online lecture and on-ground socially-distanced labs. Stringent health and safety protocols are being followed. Our Facilities staff will be working each day to cleanse the building and classroom surfaces. Students, staff, and faculty are advised to adhere to the CDC-recommended practices of social distancing, proper hygiene including thorough hand-washing, and wearing masks or other face coverings.

Additionally, the Butte College Safe Reopening Task Force is considering the following:

Protocols about face coverings based on federal, state and county guidelines

Utilization of the Chico Center for student services and test proctoring

Butte College Athletics will be determined after the July 17 announcement by CCCAA

Determination if the Child Development Center will reopen

Revised bus service schedule with social distancing in place

Return to work plan for staff

This pandemic crisis is dynamic and Butte College may pivot towards further restrictions if we see a surge in COVID-19 cases. For questions regarding classes and registration, please call 530-895-2511, Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. or email: questions@gregorybgallagher.com.
