An exciting career awaits you in Respiratory Care. This is an Allied Health profession where practitioners care for people with heart and lung diseases. Our scope of practice allows us to care for all ages of the population, ranging from newborn to the elderly.
Job activities range from patient education, pulmonary function and other diagnostic testing to the performance of emergency life-sustaining procedures and the initiation of mechanical ventilation. Students in the Butte College Respiratory Care program are given "hands-on" clinical training in both laboratory and clinical settings and are exposed to the latest technologies in respiratory care.
The demand for the services of the respiratory professional remains high, and the rewards of the profession are endless. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of respiratory therapists is expected to increase faster than average over the next decade, primarily because the aging baby boom generation will increase the number of older people, who tend to suffer the most from respiratory conditions like pneumonia and COPD and who often have respiratory complications due to heart disease and other common diseases of aging.
